iOS Update 4.3.5 Jailbreak

iOS435The most recent iOS upgrade to version 4.3.5 closes some of the PDF vulnerabilities that allow users of previous 4.3.x systems to use jailbreakme.com to jailbreak their devices. You can use Redsn0w to JB the 4.3.5 iOS but it’s cumbersome and only exists in tethered mode; which means everytime you reboot your device, you have to run through a modified re-jailbreak all over again. If it were me, I would wait until the i-phone dev team comes up with an untethered JB. If you really want to upgrade, there is an excellent guide at redmondpie.com.

Redsn0w Can Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 On iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch. Here’s How To Use It! [Tutorial]

I just wish I had read this two weeks ago – before I bought an iPhone on ebay that didn’t say it had been jailbroken, though it said cydia was installed. Anyway, I reset it and of course couldn’t get it back in running order, so the guy took it back because (in contrast to the other 20 iPhones he had already sold on ebay) it hadn’t been described as “jailbroken”. Ya live, ya learn.

Jim – Cydia is what is installed when you jailbreak it. All jailbreaking means is you break out of the single distribution channel Apple ties you to. Cydia offers another source for apps.

Dan – Bummer. Did you keep the old 4.3.3 ipsw to rebuild the phone? You should also get Aptbackup to save your jailbroken settings.
