Whaling dispute off the Antarctic Coast

The Ady Gil was rammed by a Japanese fishing vessel off the Antarctic coast in an apparent attempt to stop environmental activists from stopping the whaling operation.

What’s interesting is that the Ady Gil, under another incarnation as Earthrace, holds the world record for fastest circumnavigation in a powered boat, at 60 days, 23 hours, 49 minutes. The fascinating thing is the absolute world record for ANY boat, is held by a SAILBOAT(the Orange II) with the record at a 50 days 16 hours 20 minutes and 4 seconds.

Regardless of your stance on whaling, I agree with Peter Garrett, ex-Midnight Oil frontman and current Australian Environmental Minister, that such confrontations have no place on the high seas. Safety MUST be the first priority.
